Workshops 31.01.13

Exhibiting & Curating

Yesterday was a busy day but the workshops we had have made both me and my group feel much better about the Exhibiting and Curating module. After being able to see both professional and past students' catalogues, I'm much more certain about what is expected of me. After a number of exercises, I've realised that it is essential that my catalogue is relevant to our exhibition theme (yet to be decided, but I think, I hope, we go with Restrictions as I think this will allow everyone to bring their own reactions to the table), as well as well written, easily readable, visually interesting, good quality images, and contains necessary information (time, date, place etc). As this is a personal response to our group exhibition, I want to make sure my catalogue is a true reflection on the exhibition that displays the artwork and installation well.

After meeting with the majority of the group yesterday I think we should work together well. Everyone seems to have a good working ethic and seems enthusiastic in our approach of this module. I just hope this lasts throughout. We seem quite good at vocalising our concerns and being respectful of each other's ideas, so I hope our lines of communication will remain clear in order to work best as a team. We decided on a variety of rules to work by in order to improve our teamwork, as well as deciding to create a team noticeboard where we can voice our ideas/ successes/ failures/ needs/ concerns/ arrangements clearly, even in the absence of others. We decided to meet on monday in order to decide on a theme for our exhibition and to give out roles to each team player, as well as setting dates when tasks should be done. I hope this will allow everyone to get started on both their work to be exhibited as well as starting to think about their individual jobs. As some of the group will be leaving for Barcelona on Wednesday, this will probably be our last chance to meet before, perhaps, one final meeting before we have to present our proposal on the 14th.
